Round Log, saddle notch

Khita builds high quality hand crafted log homes in two styles. Our round log buildings use the classic Scandinavian method of scribing logs and cutting a small channel or cope on the bottom side to fit neatly to the previous log. A saddle notch is usually used for the corners but a dovetail notch is another option.

Our speciality is “hewn” log dovetail. This is where the scribe fit construction from Northern Europe is combined with the hewn timber and dovetailed corner that was commonly used in Eastern North America. We saw the logs 10" thick but leave the tops and bottoms of the log round. Then the same scribing and cutting as in the round log style but with a dovetail corner.
